Overcoming Obstacles: What’s Really Holding You Back?

We all come across obstacles in life. Not every day is plain sailing, and at times, it can feel like everything is against us. If you do hit a hurdle, the important thing is not to throw the towel in. It is possible to overcome barriers, but first, you need to know what’s really holding you back.

Your self-esteem

If you suffer from low self-esteem, this can have a massive impact on the choices you make, and the way you behave. If you’ve got bags of confidence and you feel great about yourself, you probably wouldn’t think twice about applying for that job or asking that guy you’ve liked for ages out on a date. If you’ve got low self-esteem, you may automatically assume that there’s no point in even trying. It can be very difficult to live with low confidence, but there are ways you can gradually build up your self-esteem. Try and be gentle on yourself, and set yourself realistic goals. Don’t waste time comparing yourself to others. The beauty of the human race is that everyone is different. It can be very easy to get carried away with our faults and flaws, but try and focus on your strengths. Nobody is perfect, and the sooner you realize that, the better.

Your relationship

Relationships can be the most wonderful thing in the world, but they can also be incredibly damaging. If all is not well in your relationship, it can make you question everything. Most of us long to share our lives with somebody we love more than anything, but sometimes, these dreams don’t come true. If you’re having troubles with your partner, try and be rational, and face up to your issues. Don’t bury your head in the sand, and hope that everything will turn out alright. If you’re arguing all the time, and you’re both miserable, something has got to give. You don’t need to call in the divorce lawyers straight away, but don’t stay together if you’re not happy. Sometimes, relationships don’t work, and it’s best to part company. It may be a painful decision, but it could also be the making of you. You have to give yourself a shot at happiness again, and who knows where the next chapter of your life could take you.

Your financial situation

Money worries are one of the most common causes of stress in the modern world. If you own money or you’re struggling to make ends meet, this can keep you awake at night. Not having enough money can also hold you back in terms of living your dreams, and getting out there and enjoying life. If you are anxious about your financial situation, seek advice from somebody in the know. If you set up a meeting with a financial adviser, you can talk about everything from tackling debts to setting up a savings scheme. If you’re worried that life is passing you by, try and find ways of boosting your earnings and saving more. Perhaps you want to travel, or you’re desperate to become a homeowner. Start saving now. If you put a little aside every month, you’ll get there eventually, and all your hard work will be worthwhile.

If you’ve hit a hurdle in this thing called life, don’t panic. Take a deep breath, rationalize the situation, and try and address the issues that are holding you back head-on.
