One of the first things we did here in Austin was the SXSW Gaming Expo, for two reason: 1. we are huge on technology and 2. I love doing free stuff. I knew that it was going to be a huge ordeal because even the mayor was asking people to not drive downtown because basically a massive chunk of the downtown was celebrating SXSW in some way or another. Though we were able to make it downtown and pay $10 for all day parking and walk to the convention center without too much trouble. In fact when we left we even found a closer parking area for the same price, so now we know for the next year.
It was basically what I expected, lots and lots of video game brands wanting you to learn about their games. Though to be honest I was a little sadden by how many brands were represented by people that were just sitting on their phones ignoring the crowd. Luckily there were brand there that really wanted you to check out their goodies at just about any cost. We got quite a bit of free swag and the boys couldn’t have been happier.
Then we ended up at the 3 Black Dot booth, the booth that represented some of the biggest gaming YouTubers. The boys decided to spend their money on some neat skate board decks to get signed by their favorite YouTubers. We ended up waiting about an hour in line total to meet their favorites, which really was too bad considering how happy it made the boys.
The only thing I was a little bummed out about no being able to locate where all the people were getting Voodoo Donuts from. Then again theres always next year, and we totally plan on going back again!
