When your kids have their birthdays, it’s a wonderful time in the life of any parent. And you want to do what you can to make the day as special for them as possible. This is a natural desire for any mother. And in order to achieve this, you need to understand how to plan and throw the perfect boys birthday party. As a mom of two boys I feel I am perfectly placed to offer you advice on planning the ultimate boys birthday party; so here it is!
Choose a Theme
First things first, you need to work on selecting a theme for the party. Sit down with your kid and talk to them about any ideas they might have had. Of course, the ideas need to be sensible, and workable. By speaking to them, you can come up with a theme for the day. This is important because it means that everybody knows what to expect. You can alert the party guests and focus on making the party all about the theme in question.
Design the Invites
I think one of the key responsibilities for any mom is designing the party invites. Now, no doubt your son will want to be involved with this as well. After all, it is going to be his special day so he should have some sort of say. But, you need to take charge and make sure the invites look good and are based on the theme of the party. This is a great way to kick things off well and set the tone for the rest of the party.
As well as choosing a theme and sorting out the invites, you need to make sure you decorate the place as well. This means you need to do a bit of shopping and get yourself some decorations. I would advise you speak to you child beforehand and determine a theme for the day. If you know the sort of theme that the party will be based around it will make it much easier for you to decorate. This is a vital part of bringing the party to life and adding some joy and vibrancy to the home.
Bake a Cake
Birthday cakes play a big role in making the day as special as it is. And that means you need to do what you can to get a cake that’s right for the occasion. A lot of moms like to buy in a cake or have one specially made. If you enjoy baking, I would suggest you make a cake yourself. There are a lot of advantages to doing this. For one thing, you’re going to be able to customise it to exactly what you know your kid will like. It’s also very therapeutic and means you get to contribute even further to an essential part of the day.
Get Party Food
The cake isn’t the only thing you’re going to need to pay attention to either! It’s important to think about the kind of food you’re going to get for the party. Now, you essentially have three options here. Option one is that you could make the food yourself. This will involve stocking up on party food and nibbles for lots hungry mouths. Or, you might think about ordering pizzas for the children to dig into when they get hungry. Alternatively, you might think about taking the party out for some food. Each option offers different positives and negatives, and you need to decide which you are happier with.
Choose the Right Gifts
The next thing I would recommend sorting out is choosing the right gifts. Now, you know your kid better than anyone. So you should have a clear idea of their interests and tastes by this point. And you sometimes need to think outside the box a little when it comes to choosing the ideal gifts. They might have been eyeing a new toy or game for a while, and these are always a good option. But, you might also think about getting clothes. If you’re looking for customised boys t-shirts then Zoey’s Attic has them. Think hard about the sorts of gifts that your son would enjoy and go gift shopping well in advance so you can make changes if you need to.
Plan a Party
After sorting out all the other bits involved in a party, you then need to plan the party itself. What I like to do is sit down and make a list of all the things that need to be sorted out for the party. I write up a guest list, I brainstorm ideas, and I plan it all out. This helps to give me a much clearer idea of what needs to be done and how to go about doing it. I can use this information to perfectly plan the party and ensure there are no problems or mistakes involved. Planning things out is the best way of identifying potential problems and coming up with ways to sort those problems out.
Speak to Parents
It’s very important that you remember to take the time to speak to the other parents. When you throw a party for your son, you will be inviting other children over. And that means that you will be responsible for them during the party. So, you need to speak to their parents and make sure they are happy with the arrangements. I’d also suggest finding out about any dietary requirements that any of the children might have. This is the best way to ensure that everything goes without a hitch and that there are no issues with other parents at all. The last thing you want is the birthday party tarnished by accidents or injuries and having to explain that to other parents.
The main thing you need to sort out when you’re arranging a boys birthday party is the entertainment. Now, you have to remember that kids have short attention spans, and they need constant stimulation. And that’s why it’s important to have an array of different sorts of entertainment to choose from. That means you need to have a party playlist of songs. There should be a selection of movies to choose from. You might think about hiring a clown or magician to wow the children too.
As the parent and the adult, take it from me, you need to supervise. Kids parties will require plenty of supervision anyway, but especially when it comes to boys. They are chaotic and physical, and they like to have fun and be energetic. This is a good thing, but it does need to be maintained, and you need to make sure there are no accidents. Try to set out some ground rules for the kids before they get started. If you’re going somewhere like an activity center there will be plenty of supervisors there. So they can take some of the burden off you, but you still need to keep your eyes peeled, especially as you’re responsible for other people’s kids!
Now, many birthday parties normally include some form of a sleepover at the end of them. I have found this is more often the case with girls’ parties than boys’ parties. But, there are still plenty of sleepovers had by boys. So speak to your kid and see if they want to have a sleepover after their party. You could sweeten the deal by combining it with a movie night and pizza. Think about the sorts of things boys would enjoy. Of course, a sleepover might not be possible for all the kids, and you may not have the room for a lot of them. So perhaps this is something that should be reserved for your son and his closest friends.
Go Out or Stay In
You’ll need to make a decision about whether everyone will be staying in for the party, or going out. Now, this often depends on how long the party is going to be. If it’s a one-off evening or day, you might want to take everyone out somewhere. But, if it’s over a weekend or a couple of days I’d suggest you spend a bit of time at home as well. It gives a bit of variety, and it’s easier on the purse strings that way too! If you are going to take the kids out somewhere you’ll have to decide where, and, of course, consult parents.
Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibilities, and one of the main ones is planning your kid’s birthday party. This takes, a lot of work, effort and preparation, and is not as simple as merely coming up with a party idea. As the adult, you’ll be responsible for the planning and effort that goes into making the day a special occasion. I have boys myself so I know what it’s like to have to plan a boys birthday party. I hope you can make use of the suggestions and tips I’ve included in this post. They are instrumental in ensuring you plan and throw the ideal birthday party for boys.
