That is a scary statistic. My oldest is 11 and my other two are not far behind him, and I can tell you I will do anything in my power to prevent them from becoming one of those 2,500. I wanted to share some of the signs to know if your child is using drugs.
- Rapid weight loss, or a change in appetite.
- Become undependable/truant.
- Paleness of skin.
- He/she might smell differently.
- Altered sleep habits.
- Change in their interest/hobbies.
- Urge to get/earn more money.
- Change in the crowd that they hang out with.
- Become secretive.
- More argumentative.
- Changes in their demeanor. An outgoing child might become withdrawn.
Make sure that you know your child’s friends and their parents if possible. Also be sure to check their bedrooms often. I know back when I was younger I always said I wouldnt snoop in my kids rooms, however as I have grown and matured I have realized that it is pretty important to know what your child is up to. I cannot stress enough that you understand that your child might be your baby, but he/she is NEVER too young to start using. The power of peer pressure knows no limits.
If you think or know that your child is using I beg you to get help. Consider starting with Time to Act {part of drugfree.org}, it will walk you through what to do next.
