Every Friday night is pizza night at our house. Every other week we buy delivery pizza, and the other weeks we make homemade pizza. The nights that we make pizza at home are always a big hit with my bunch. I typically make my own crust, and by make my own crust I mean pour the powder out of a box and add water. While its very delicious, it is also incredibly frustrating to try and spread out the dough evenly while three kids are creating a whirl wind of noise around me. But I do it because everyone loves it, and it saves us money.
When I heard about Pillsbury’s new Artisan pizza crust with whole grain, I was excited to try it, even though the family wasn’t too impressed with the store bought pizza crust (I think it was one of those that comes pre-shaped in plastic). But, it was a healthier and easier option than what I was currently making for them, so I figured what did I have to lose.
I made barbecue chicken pizza. Which is basically just a barbecue sauce base, with shredded barbecue seasoned chicken, onions and a lot of cheese. Its always a huge hit around here. I instantly noticed a huge difference in the effort that I had to put forward to spread the crust over the pan to form the pizza shape. It was so easy to form the crust.
The big test though, was the taste. Was it as good as our current crust? Yes, it was much easier to prepare but thats all for nothing if it doesn’t taste as good. I was pleased when I served everyone and the table went quiet, followed by compliments. It was delicious, much better than what I was using before. Apparently I just wasn’t trying the right brand of pizza crust, because this “store bought” pizza crust was very good. Like I mention before it is a whole grain crust, with 16 grams of whole grain per serving, its the healthier (more delicious) option.
