I Blinked….and Then..

At some point between last week and last night my sweet little almost 9 year old Jayde turned into a tween. She’s moody, stabby {yes, stabby} and now has her second pimple. I didn’t record the first one because I was in denial and thought it was a bug bite. Basically this all confirms what I thought, she’s growing up, and even if I ignore it, they ARE growing up.

I know this sounds like a total cliche that every parent says at some time or another, but wasn’t it just yesterday that she was wearing cute tv character tees and actually wanting to spend time with me?!

I am not ready for this at all. Im not ready to have “the talk” with her, heck I wouldn’t even know what to say. I honestly don’t even recall having the talk with my mom when I was younger. However it is becoming apparent very fast that I have limited time to have it.

I have skimmed over articles, and read the one book we have on the subject, and yet I feel nervous and unsure about how to even begin this conversation with her {luckily John will have the conversation with the boys}. I feel that any of the articles I have read just haven’t met what I needed to know. So if anyone out there has some decent resources I could really use them right about now.

I can say two things though. 1.) girls do mature/develop faster. 2.) The baby/toddler year had absolutely nothing on this tween phase, leaving me believing that the teen years are going to be pure hell.

Oh my I wish I had some advice but I don’t since I am raising a 6 year old right now. I am so dreading the tween years though and I will keep an eye out for any useful advice anyone might suggest on this post.

It is sad to see just how fast children grow up. I just wish I could hang on to those years and never let go. I want to stop time but I can’t. I must let life take its course.
