As time wears on I am noticing where I made mistakes in my diet before. Last night for example we went on a walk and swing by Walgreens to pick up a few things,
and I decided that we would get a piece of candy as a treat. After realizing there wasn’t too many cheap healthy options. So I opted to get twizzlers because I read somewhere that they were a lower calorie option. Naturally I didn’t read the package until I sat down to eat them. Thats when I realized my treat had more calories than two of my children’s candy bars combined. Nuts. Lesson learned, don’t believe everything that you read. Also read the packages before eating.
I also notice more now whenever Im actually hungry. Opposed to whenever Im eating because Im bored or stressed. Apparently I did that a lot before. Now I either busy myself, or drink some water.
I am also eating a lot less meat. I find it less satisfying than vegetables. I don’t even purchase junk food anymore, because I know that if it is in the house I will eat it. Even if it doesn’t taste as good as my healthy snacks. Old habits are very hard to break.
Most importantly I see where I failed in all of my “diets” before. One word: FAMILY. While they are amazing support, they also can be a terrible influence. For example the night John came back from a business trip with a special treat, of Krystal burgers from Nashville {there isn’t any Krystals here in Kentucky} they practically begged me to eat one. After about 10 attempts to make me eat that delicious little burger I finally told them NO, even though it was one of my favorite past times I would like to keep it that way, knowing that if I took a bit they wouldn’t taste nearly as delicious as I remembered them being since my eating habit have changed. Luckily as time wears on, the family is realizing that no means no. If they want to eat something unhealthy more power to them, but I will not.
Over all though they have all been pretty good. The kids have only had maybe 3 pieces of candy since this diet started, and have enjoyed all of our healthy snacks. The biggest improvement is John, but thats another post itself.
