Cookie Traditions

Thanks to Duncan Hines for sponsoring my writing. There’s no limit to the baking possibilities, so grab your favorite Duncan Hines mix and Comstock or Wilderness fruit fillings and Bake On! www.duncanhines.com.

Since its almost Christmas, and not only are funds tight a lot because of the economy, and some because of of these doctors visits is draining our funds. I still feel like we should send gifts to the semi immediate family. So I started scouting for ideas of something “cheap” but still nice. Then I thought of mom, she ALWAYS made tins of cookies. PERFECT, cheap, and keeping up with tradition. Then I realized, I can’t really bake. BUT I can make some mean cake mix cookies. Problem solved.
Cake Mix Cookies
1 box any flavor cake mix (I used devils food)
2 eggs
1/2 cup oil

Add 1/2 cup oil and two eggs to one box of cake mix. Add chips, nuts, and flavorings if desired.
Drop by teaspoonfuls on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

What I love about this recipe is that it is SO simple, even I couldnt mess it up, and I can use it with ANY cake mix flavor. Can we say endless possibilities??

Now- I wanted to put a spin on tradition. I wanted to add something to drink with the tin of cookies. But what. Milk? Egg nog? Hot chocolate? YES! I saw a super cute recipe for hot chocolate in a jar. I know personally my favorite thing to drink with desert is hot chocolate or milk, and I think that goes without saying that my family feels the same. Unless its pie or something fruit based, then I chose milk, hands down. Actually- coffee would work great with cookies as well. So maybe the gifts for families with children I will make hot chocolate, and then put coffee for the others.

What do you think? Hot chocolate and coffee? What flavors of cake mix cookies should I do? Im thinking Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry {Strawberry is my favorite!} I used Duncan Hines Devils Food in the picture above and it was AMAZING.
